Overview of feed industry
On February 10, 2022, the China Feed Industry Association announced the general situation of the development of the national feed industry in 2021. The report shows that in 2021, there will be 957 feed plants with an annual output of more than 100000 tons, 208 more than that in 2020, and 14 plants with an annual output of more than 500000 tons, 5 more than that in 2020; 39 feed enterprise groups with an annual output of more than one million tons, 6 more than the previous year; The total feed output accounted for 59.7% of the national total feed output, 5.1 percentage points higher than that of the previous year. In 2021, the concentration of the feed industry will increase significantly under the pressure of rising raw material prices. The bargaining power brought about by the centralized procurement of large enterprises will contribute to the development of high-quality feed.
In 2021, the total output of industrial feed in China will be 293.443 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 16.1%. With the rapid recovery of the pig industry, the pig feed output reached 130.765 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 46.6%; The output of meat and poultry feed was 89.096 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.9%; The output of ruminant, aquatic products and pet feed increased by 12.2%, 8.0% and 17.3% month on month respectively. In addition, with the application of low protein diet and balanced protein diet, the yield of feed additives and single amino acids increased significantly. The total output of feed additives in China was 14.775 million tons, up 6.2% year on year. The output of amino acids and vitamins was 4.255 million tons and 1.773 million tons, up 15.1% and 10.5% year on year respectively. With the application of unconventional feed materials, the direct production of enzymes and microorganisms increased by 19.0% and 17.4% respectively year on year. In general, pig feed and poultry feed are the most important feed products in China.
The proportion of main raw materials in feed formula has changed greatly. The above report shows that the consumption of corn in feed production enterprises across the country decreased by 24.7% over the previous year, and the consumption of wheat, rice, barley, sorghum and other grain raw grains and wheat bran, rice bran and other grain processing by-products increased rapidly. The consumption of soybean meal increased by 5.7% over the previous year, and the consumption of rapeseed meal, cotton meal and other meals increased by 17.9%. Considering that the total feed output has increased by 46.6%, the proportion of corn in the feed formula will decrease by 48.63%, the soybean meal will decrease by 27.90%, and the miscellaneous meal will decrease by 19.58% in 2021.
