The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) said that it was pleased with the new agreement reached with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to designate the Agricultural Market Service (AMS) of the United States Department of Agriculture as the certification agency for the export of animal feed and pet food products in the United States.
Gina, manager of the International Trade Department of the American Feed Industry Association, said that the new agreement was the result of the efforts of the American Feed Industry Association to lobby. They reported some problems to the Agricultural Market Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. Now the feed industry has exported its products to different countries with different requirements.
For example, Brazil requires "good practice certification", while China requires products to conform to "Document No. 118 of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China". In order to meet the increasing requirements of some countries, a feed export certification solution is needed. This prompted several agencies to draft the new agreement together.
AMS will act as the competent authority for the registration, review and certification of feed and feed production equipment according to foreign requirements.
Now AMS has been able to certify many feed products, including pet food and snacks, DDGS, mixed feed and feed additives.
